English Week 2025: Reading Culture, Learning Community, and Platform for All to Shine

English Week 2025 has come to an end, and everyone in our school has taken away memories to savour for a long time.
The Week’s opening act was Morning Assembly presentations by teachers and students, with topics about how to choose a suitable book for yourself, how reading is akin to travelling around the world, and recommendations for fiction and non-fiction.
The presentations created a sense of anticipation for one of the English Week highlights—the Book Fair itself! It featured titles chosen by teachers from different subjects: English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Geography. To promote student participation, we also showcased books selected by representatives of the English Club, with some of its members also serving as Reading Ambassadors at the Book Fair.
The second highlight was definitely the Reading Talk: on 18 March 2025, S4 and S5 students spent a delightful afternoon with author and artist, Ms. Sophia Hotung. Her sharing about how she battled chronic illness inspired students to be resilient, and her lively interpretation of life using a plot diagram encouraged students to reflect on their own experiences from a uniquely different perspective.
The Reading Talk did not end with passive listening; students actively participated in the talk as there was an inter-house quiz competition, which required students to spell words from different subjects, and answer questions on five topics: National Security Education, United Nations SDGs, school development, reading, and values education. Participants of the competition enriched their knowledge while the audience cheered for their house representatives. Ms. Hotung, who helped us judge the answers, found this experience enjoyable and impressive!
