Hoi Ping Ensuring Continued Success in 2025 HKDSE
In a remarkable display of our excellent academic traditions, Hoi Ping’s DSE candidates have once again achieved impressive results this year. 90.7% of our students reached the 332A milestone, far surpassing the territory mark (38.4%), with the majority of them reaching the 332A22 requirement to enter JUPAS-participating universities.
From another perspective, we have made significant strides, as 29.1% of our students have reached level 5+ in all subjects, and that of level 4+ stands proudly at 69.3%. Last but not least, 27 students obtained 25 points and above in the DSE. All these results are a testament to their determination, as well as the supportive environment we foster at our school.

S6D Ling Yuet Yee (Yoyo)
Work Hard and Take Charge of Your Life
Yoyo attained five 5** in five subjects: Chinese, English, Mathematics (Core), Physics and Economics, and two 5*: Chemistry and Mathematics M2. Unlike many high achievers, who usually opt for medical- or law-related programmes, Yoyo aims to study Quantitative Finance and Risk Management Science in CUHK. She also hopes to broaden her horizons by seeking overseas exchange opportunities.
The road to glory is always rugged, where challenges are inevitable, but Yoyo places great emphasis on her studies and industriously engages in exam drills. At the start of her senior form, she encountered a plethora of challenges in English, despite her previous success in junior forms. Recognizing the difficulties she faced, Yoyo firmly believes that practice makes perfect. She committed herself to working through past exam papers, engaging in additional English reading exercises, and sharing her study materials with her friends.
Regarding stress management and alleviation, Yoyo prefers meditation and listening to music. These practices help her cultivate a sense of calm and enhance her concentration throughout the day.
S6D Cheung Tsz Hin (Hin)
Time Management and Clear Plans
Hin performed remarkably in HKDSE, achieving 5** in English and Physics, as well as 5* in Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics (Core) and Chinese. He humbly expresses that he is astounded by such results. He aspires to pursue studies in the medical field in the future.
Hin mentions that during his revision period, he established clear study plans and organized his tasks, such as practicing past papers and reviewing Biology, without setting time targets to avoid amplifying his stress. This approach allowed him to review his progress favourably and prepare for the DSE with ease. For Physics, he once feared learning about specific topics, but he practised with past exam questions persistently.
Hin also engaged in the World Scholar's Cup, and he acknowledges that the competition exposed him to participants from different countries. By listening to others, he experienced the diversity of English accents and actively communicated with the participants, which broadened his horizons and provided him with greater possibilities in his English studies.
Hin advises his junior peers to prepare in advance, consolidate their learning early, and practice past papers frequently to enhance their understanding so as to achieve their desired results.
S6E Lam Wing Kwan (Wing)
Strategies, Challenges, and Insights
Wing has achieved an impressive result in Chinese (5**) and Economics (5*) in the DSE. She is aiming to apply for programmes related to medical studies.
Wing underscores the significance of utilising study techniques tailored to individual needs, such as active recall and replying on long-term memory, which proved instrumental in her success. On the other hand, she did face a multitude of challenges during her preparation for the DSE, for instance, being distracted by social media and video streaming applications. To overcome this issue, she headed to the study room for the focused and serene atmosphere.
Apart from tackling the obstacles, she also highlights that relaxation is paramount, with two efficacious methods being meditation and listening to music to mitigate her emotional strains. An insightful remark from Wing is “DSE is not a sprint, it’s a marathon”. In order to score high, we will have to build our knowledge by doing past papers as early as possible. Never give up, and it is never too late to start.
S6E Shum Lok Yi (Gianna)
Be Driven, Be Relentless, and Form a Learning Community
Gianna achieved an outstanding 5** in English and a 5* in Chinese. Due to her excellent results and strong affection towards animals, she is planning to apply for a veterinary degree.
Giana utilizes online learning applications to monitor her study progress. This learning method creates a positive learning vibe and allows her to keep going. Also, she points out that when time is limited, we often have to make sacrifices for our studies, but we should not be afraid of doing so as making choices is part of growing up.
Gianna stresses the importance of balancing academics and ECAs: students should think about whether they have enough time to study before engaging in any ECA. As everyone has limited time, Gianna thinks we should not work on our own. Finding help from friends is vital to overcome the DSE and time constraints. Additionally, she advised students not to fear difficult challenges and to embrace new experiences: sometimes, all it takes is one step to prove to ourselves we can do things well. If we never try, we never know.
