World Scholar’s Cup (Hong Kong Regional Round 2023)

The World Scholar’s Cup is an annual international academic tournament comprising four events – Team Debate, Collaborative Writing, Scholar’s Challenge (Individual Quiz), and Scholar’s Bowl (Team Quiz). The questions in the four events revolve around six major areas, including History, Social Studies, Art and Music, Literature and Media, Science and Technology, as well as a special area designated by the organisation each year.
15 students from our school took part in the Hong Kong Regional Round of the tournament for the first time this year, and they formed 5 different teams and competed against contestants from very top local and international schools in Hong Kong. After the two-day tournament, they did not only rank highly in debates and collaborative writing, but all of the teams scored well enough to qualify for the Global Round of the tournament taking place in London this summer.
In particular, out of the top 3 Writing Champions (Senior Division) in Hong Kong, our students secured both the 2nd and 3rd places. In debating, one of our students came 2nd in Hong Kong.
For team awards, one of our teams outcompeted all the other teams and claimed the 3rd Place Trophy in Team Debate. In Team Writing, out of the top 5 teams in Hong Kong, one of our teams came 4th, and another got the 3rd Place Trophy.
All the five teams were awarded more than 50 medals and 2 team trophies in total during the 2-day tournament, an achievement making us proud, especially considering that the vast majority of the contestants come from international schools and those under the Direct Subsidy Scheme with very rich English-speaking environments.
