World Scholar's Cup (London Global Round 2023)

Following their triumph in the Hong Kong Regional Round, the 5 teams of 15 students from our school took part in the London Global Round of the tournament this summer, competing against contestants from all around the world, including North and South Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia. After the four-day tournament, they did not only rank highly in debates and collaborative writing, but 4 of the teams scored well enough to qualify for the Tournament of Champions taking place in Yale this November.
In particular, out of the top Writing Champions (Senior Division) in London, our students secured both the 7th and 11th places. In debating, one of our students came 3rd out of all the contestants from across the continents.
For team awards, one of our teams outcompeted all the other teams and claimed the 6th Place Trophy in Team Debate, with another team coming 14th. In Team Writing, out of the top 20 teams in London, one of our teams came 17th, and another got the 4th Place Trophy.
All the five teams were awarded more than 90 medals and 4 trophies in total during the 4-day competitions, a real achievement testifying to the gifts of Hoi Pingers, especially considering that the vast majority of the contestants come from top schools around the world, with English as their mother language. After the intense competitions, the team had a chance of interacting with contestants from all around the world in different cultural activities, and touring around London and its vicinity. Our students have gained a lot from the entire trip. Congratulations to all the award winners below!
