Engineering Tomorrow’s Healthcare: Form 3 and 4 Students Shine at HKUST MedTech Hackathon

On 10th and 11th July 2026, a group of eleven budding innovators—comprising seven Form 3 and four Form 4 students—represented our school at the HKUST Future MedTech and Health Hackathon.
Over an intensive two-day period, our teams immersed themselves in the complex world of medical technology, tackling pressing healthcare challenges such as elderly care, clinical diagnostics, and mental wellness. Moving beyond theoretical concepts, the students engaged in hands-on workshops to design and iterate early-stage prototypes alongside university mentors and healthcare professionals. The event culminated in a professional pitching session where our participants presented their visionary ideas to a panel of expert judges.
We are thrilled to announce that our Form 4 team was honoured with the Best MedTech Innovation Award for their exceptional design, while our Form 3 team secured a Silver Award in the mental health and wellness category for their project addressing postnatal depression.
Beyond the competitive success, this experience served as a powerful catalyst for our students’ holistic development and character growth. By designing human-centered solutions for vulnerable populations, they demonstrated a profound sense of care for others and a heightened awareness of contemporary social issues. The process of integrating engineering principles with medical awareness significantly expanded their breadth of knowledge, allowing them to appreciate the interconnectedness of diverse academic disciplines.
Furthermore, the high-pressure environment sharpened their essential generic skills, particularly in the areas of collaborative teamwork, creative problem-solving, and persuasive communication. As they navigated technical hurdles and presented their prototypes with confidence, these young innovators successfully widened their horizons and discovered how their creativity can drive meaningful change in the global healthcare landscape.
