Hong Kong Eye Hospital Voluntary Service Programme
Date: 29/06/2016
In June, our school has joined a service programme jointly organised by the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences of CUHK and Y’s Men’s Club of North West of YMCA. The aim of this programme is to offer free eye-checking service to primary school children so that any eye diseases can be detected and cured early. Our students work as volunteers to help the organisers run the service smoothly, e.g. taking children to the testing rooms and answering questions of children and their parents about the programme. Through this service, students have got a chance to work with medical staff in hospital, and learnt how to serve the needy and communicate with people effectively outside school. Besides, they are introduced to the study of Ophthalmology in university, and the work and career prospects of an ophthalmologist. It is hoped that students’ horizons will be broadened and their exposure to the working world will be increased.
