Elite Athlete’s Sharing
Date: 19/12/2022
In order to build student’s resilience in the face of stress and adversity, our Careers and OLE Committee invited Mr Chan Ho Yuen Daniel, who clinched a bronze medal in the Badminton Men’s Singles at the Tokyo Paralympic Games in 2021, to conduct a sharing session with our S5 and S6 students on how he overcame the challenges in his life.
Mr Chan was 22 years old when he lost his left leg in a car crash in 2008. After the accident, Mr Chan experienced his darkest days and struggled with an uncertain future. Fortunately, with the encouragement of his family and friends, he decided to go back to the badminton court and try wheelchair badminton. Gradually he gained his confidence back, became the first international wheelchair badminton player in Hong Kong, and even won a bronze medal at the Paralympics, demonstrating his uncompromising fighting spirit.
After learning about Mr Chan’s struggles and how he achieved his dream despite the numerous obstacles he faced, our students could understand the importance of perseverance, resilience, and having a positive attitude towards life.
