S6D Wong Chun Yat (Tom)
Work Hard and Take Charge of Your Life
Tom has achieved a remarkable result in the HKDSE. He attained four 5** in Mathematics (Core), Chemistry, Biology, and Physics, with two 5* in Chinese and Mathematics M2. Due to his outstanding performance and his interest in science-related subjects, he is planning to apply for a medical degree.
Tom believes that practice is the key to success, and that completing past papers frequently is absolutely essential for exam preparation. However, simply drilling questions is not enough; students must focus on deep understanding and application rather than just memorizing over-simplified concepts.
Having a clear goal was another cornerstone of Tom's success. He discovered his passion for the medical field through exploration. To satisfy his own curiosity, Tom frequently watches different educational videos. When encountering challenging topics that are initially too hard to understand, he makes a conscious effort to master the foundational concepts first. This solid base then empowers him to learn advanced topics and satisfies his quest for knowledge. This proactive learning attitude also shone through in his extracurriculars; participating in international competitions like iGEM allowed him to apply his scientific knowledge in the real world!
S6D Suen Wai Ying (April)
Leadership, Discipline, and Holistic Excellence
April has bagged three 5** in Chinese, English, and Mathematics (Core), as well as two 5* in Chemistry and Biology. Driven by a deep interest in biology, she aims to pursue medical studies and dedicate her career to the healthcare profession.
Balancing her demanding academics with her role as the President of the Students’ Union required exceptional time management. April designed a rigorous timetable and strictly disciplined herself to utilize every pocket of spare time. She admits that achieving this balance meant sacrificing rest and leisure, but she viewed it as a necessary trade-off for her future. Her core philosophy is to simply give her absolute best so she can face any outcome without regrets. She emphasizes that the key to success is overcoming the fear of being overwhelmed, building self-confidence, and proactively asking teachers for help to target personal weaknesses.
Beyond intensive revision, April stresses the importance of relaxation and emotional outlets. When facing academic setbacks, she turned to motivational readings and opened up to trusted friends and teachers for support. She advises her junior peers not to obsess over failure, as every mistake is a valuable opportunity to grow and push oneself even further.
S6E Cai Rongrong (Yolanda)
Precision, Error Logging, and Conceptual Mastery
Yolanda has performed impressively in the HKDSE, scoring three 5** in Chinese, Chemistry, and Economics, alongside three 5* in Mathematics (Core), Mathematics M2 and Biology. With such a strong academic profile, Yolanda prefers to dedicate her studies to medical-related programmes.
For Yolanda, academic success comes down to a core philosophy: thoroughly understanding concepts is far more pivotal than rote memorisation. When preparing for Biology, she created her own notes to internalise the material deeply rather than just memorising facts. Above all, Yolanda stresses the immense value of keeping an error log. After realising she was repeatedly making the same mistakes, she used the error log to target her weak spots — redoing flagged questions, practising past papers, and studying exemplars until she truly mastered the material.
Yolanda advises future candidates to approach various academic subjects with extra care and precision. She emphasises the need to be meticulous, grasp the core concepts thoroughly, and actively ask teachers for help. By doing past papers and letting teachers check their work, students can get immediate feedback and identify exactly what they need to improve right away.
S6E Lee Ho Long (Tommy)
Peer Support and Turning Setbacks into Strength
Tommy achieved stellar results in the HKDSE, scoring 5** in Mathematics (Core), Mathematics M2, and Chemistry, alongside 5* in Biology and Physics. Driven by a lifelong passion for numbers, he plans to study Enrichment Mathematics at CUHK.
To tackle the unpredictable questions in the DSE, Tommy relied heavily on past papers to spot his weak areas, regularly bouncing questions off his teachers and peers. He also made his own Chemistry notes to facilitate revision and disciplined himself to push through the heavy memorization required for Biology.
While volleyball took up much of his time in S4, Tommy regained his focus once he realised how high the entry requirements were for his dream course. To stay disciplined, he set up a daily study group with classmates. Studying together kept him away from distractions like his phone and snacks, while teaching his peers helped clarify his own understanding of the concepts.
Whenever mock exam results fell short or burnout kicked in, Tommy adopted a pragmatic mindset. Recognizing that he couldn't change the past, he refused to waste energy on frustration. Instead, he used those setbacks as motivation to work even harder and catch up.
S6A Hui Lam Sum (Sammi)
Clear Goals and Self-Discipline
Sammi attained satisfactory results in the HKDSE, notably securing an impressive level 5* in Chinese Literature.
During her DSE preparation, Sammi occasionally felt overwhelmed by the endless grind and anxious about the uncertain future. However, fueled by her love for the humanities and her dream of entering her ideal university, she chose to persevere. She believes having a clear goal is paramount, noting that "action creates momentum"—once you take the first brave step, every step after becomes easier. To achieve her dreams, Sammi showed incredible self-discipline. During her study leave, she stuck to a rigorous routine, studying for 12 hours a day from early morning until late at night. She forced herself to stay off her phone while revising, turning to playing the guitar and singing to unwind during breaks.
In senior forms, Sammi gradually found the study method that worked best for her. Realizing that raw memorization was ineffective, she switched to creating her own notes by blending classroom highlights with teacher handouts, which made the content much easier to digest. Throughout the long marathon of revision, she kept her composure by constantly reminding herself: "If you want to achieve your goals, you have to pay the price," and "You've already held on for this long—just keep going a little further."
