S6B Lam Ho Tin (Daniel)

Keeping the Faith and Reaching the Peak

Daniel scored four 5** in Mathematics (core part), Mathematics M2, Chemistry, and Physics, with two 5* in English and ICT. Passionate about Mathematics, Daniel aims to study Enrichment Mathematics at CUHK and would like to pursue a career in education in the future.

Unlike other students who choose more popular subjects, Daniel's passion for Mathematics has driven his determination to study it further. Having discovered his interest in science at junior secondary levels, Daniel mentioned that learning what he liked greatly contributed to his excellent academic performance.

His two-year experience as a peer tutor and of forming study groups has strengthened his aspiration to become a Mathematics teacher. Daniel expressed his desire for teaching and sharing knowledge with more people.

When asked how to prepare for the DSE, Daniel stressed the importance of time management and emotional control. He also highlighted that stress is inevitable, but turning it into motivation would be helpful. Moreover, he encouraged upcoming DSE candidates to study with their peers and be confident during their DSE journey.

S6B Cheung Ho Yin (Lucas)

Unveiling New Horizons and Reaping the Fruits of Learning

Lucas has achieved two 5** (English and Geography) and four 5* (Mathematics (core part), Mathematics M2, Physics and Chemistry). With a strong determination to broaden his horizons, he aims to study Physics at Imperial College London.

Lucas has achieved remarkable results in both arts and sciences. He emphasizes the importance of exploring study methods that work best for each individual student. For instance, when studying science subjects, he suggests focusing on understanding concepts and underlying logic, while for humanities subjects, he recommends focusing on holistic comprehension and course materials.

During his study leave, Lucas meticulously created a comprehensive to-do list encompassing all the tasks he needed to complete. He then organized them into a daily schedule, allowing him to track his progress and have an overview of his revision. Plans may not always perfectly align with unexpected changes, but it is more important to recognize that one has done their best.

As Lucas prepared for his studies abroad, the coverage of admission tests often goes beyond the DSE syllabus. Therefore, he stressed that learning should not be solely confined to DSE syllabi, and it is crucial to actively explore additional areas of knowledge.

S6A Chan Pui Hei (Evan)

Epitome of Bilingual Excellence

Evan has achieved 5** in both Chinese and English. With his impressive results, he is planning to pursue the Bachelor of Arts degree at HKU, and plans to major in Chinese and Comparative Literature, which will contribute to his development in the literary field.

Evan's remarkable achievement is closely related to his enthusiasm for the Chinese Language. Since his childhood, he has developed a habit of reading to satisfy his curiosity. ‘Language is a form of art,’ Evan shared, and reading nurtured his strong language sense, trained his logical thinking, and cemented his foundation in language, laying solid groundwork for his outstanding performance in these subjects.

Regarding his preparation for the English DSE, Evan pointed out that he is fascinated by languages and, therefore, loves watching English videos and movies to explore authentic English usage. When encountering unfamiliar words, he immediately looks them up in the dictionary to expand his vocabulary. He believes that instead of struggling to memorize difficult words, it is more effective to gain a holistic understanding of the subject and flexibly apply that knowledge to assessments.

Evan suggests that students should prepare ahead of time in order to establish a strong language foundation and achieve better results in the exam. For him, only through perseverance can significant progress be made and one's strengths fully utilized.

S6E Hui Hoi Lam (Corrine)

Dauntless in the Face of Difficulties When It Comes to Learning

Corrine has achieved outstanding performance in arts subjects, with a Level 5* in Chinese Literature. Due to her great interest in Chinese Language, Corrine sets her sights on studying Chinese Language and Literature at Fudan University in Shanghai.

Corrine faced a series of challenges during her preparation for the application. She expressed her gratitude towards the school for nominating her through the School Principal's Nomination (SPN). After the interview, she realized that learning should not be confined to academic pursuits, but should be more comprehensive. She encouraged schoolmates not to be startled by unfamiliar environments because college is an open-minded place that allows people with the same passion to meet and get along.

Corrine did not choose popular electives that are associated with better prospects. She is grateful that her passion for studying these subjects overshadowed popular beliefs casting doubts over the utility of these subjects. She highlighted the importance of integrating and accumulating knowledge, and persistently organizing study notes.

Corrine believes that learning requires consistent efforts. It is vital to broaden one’s mind for personal growth.
